Lay Ministry Program

Northridge United Methodist Church offers various programs to meet the needs of its members who are in the hospital, in care centers, or home bound, as well as others in need. At various points in life, everyone faces periods of crisis, transition, or difficulty. At Northridge UMC we wish to be a community of compassionate people who reach out to those in need.

Lay Pastors

Lay Pastors provide one-to-one Christian care to NUMC members, averaging about one to two hours a month, to those who are homebound, in hospitals, or in convalescent care centers.

"Rejoice with those who rejoice; weep with those who weep."
Romans 12:15

Caring Angels

Visits, Phone calls, Notes and Cards, Prayers
Chair: Dorine Collins

— Caring Ministries meets monthly to review those in the congregation in need of visits, cards and prayers, and to provide the needed service.
— Hearts and Hands visits and delivers brownies and other treats to homebound on special occasions (Easter, Father's Day, etc.).
— NUMC has a Prayer List (both an email list and a phone tree) to pray for those in need.

"Encourage one another and build each other up, as in fact you are doing."
1 Thessalonians 5:11

Food Angels

Food Angels deliver meals to individuals / families in our church temporarily unable to cook for themselves. Food Angels step up to the stove or to some of the excellent prepared meals available in our local stores, and bring their culinary gifts to a person / family in need. A delicious hot meal can do much to raise the spirits of people who are not feeling well. And it helps those in need realize that people in our church family are thinking about them and care about their welfare.

Jesus said, "By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another." John 13:35

Traveling Angels

— NUMC has a team of members willing to provide transportation for those who are not able to drive themselves. "Traveling Angels" provide transportation to worship services, to church activities, to the doctor, to other appointments, etc.

"When God's people are in need, be ready to help them." Romans 12:13

Medical Equipment

— NUMC provides help for those returning home from the hospital or who otherwise need medical equipment — a hospital bed, shower chair, cane, wheel chair or other such needed equipment. NUMC has compiled information of members willing to lend such equipment, and helps make the connection between the person in need and the person willing to lend the equipment.

Truly I tell you, just as you did it to one of the least of these who are members of my family,
you did it to me. Matthew 25:40
